Women have an inclination towards cookies and chocolate, but men tend to grab a steak or pizza when their stress levels are high, however a study has shown that ice cream is high on their list of comfort food (Lacuesta, V. MD, 2008, Health Care). A. Ice Cream Roman Emperor Nero was said to be the one who started the consumption of ice cream. He had ordered ice to be brought from the mountains and had combined it with fruit toppings.

King Tang of Shang, China, who had a method in combining ice and milk concoctions, was the one who had brought the idea to Europe. Eventually, from old ‘iced cream,’ it evolved to what it is universally known nowadays, its abbreviation, ‘ice cream’ (http://inventors. about. com/od/foodrelatedinventions/a/ice_cream. htm). Eating ice cream was known to bring back happy memories especially in times of despair. Numerous brands of ice cream are now popular, and one might wonder, which of these are more healthful and more worthy of money and attention.

Most famous of these brands is Nestle Philippines. This manufacturer has been introducing different flavors of ice cream. Nutrients could be found in ice cream since it contains calcium which has come from milk. Ice cream, as any other food, has disadvantages. Ice cream has saturated fats, when one had eaten too much, might get fat. Other famous ice cream brands in the country are Breyers Ice Cream of Unilever, Bruster’s Ice Cream, Dairy Queen, Ben & Jerry’s and Blue Bunny, which is considered as the third largest ice cream maker in the United States of America.

These companies have produced a range of the most famous flavors, namely, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and a whole lot more. B. Chocolate The origin of chocolates is much more different than that of the ice cream. Chocolates have evolved slower, from seeds to trees, before it became famous. The Mayans and the Aztecs have discovered the cacao tree, and then fermented and prepared some to form a “bitter, chocolatey, drink called xocoatl, meaning ‘bitter water’” (http://www. essortment. com/all/historyofcho_rwax. htm). Chocolates are known also for the caffeine it contains.

It keeps the mind awake, and keeps the heart beat faster. A study has also shown that chocolates improve one’s brain activity. Chocolates are nutritious despite its high fat and sugar content. Vitamin E, iron, and copper are also present in chocolates (http://wiki. answers. com/Q/Is_there_any_nutritional_value_in_chocolate). Chocolate companies offer different services that left one confused which one is more healthful. Most famous companies that produce chocolates are Lindt Chocolates, Nestle chocolate, Ghirardelli chocolate, Hershey chocolate and Mars chocolate (http://ezinearticles. om/? Americas-Top-5-Chocolate-Candy-Brands;id=356430). In the combination of these foods come the effects to women during break-up. Most women would be depressed regretting the time wasted with the ‘wrong guy. ’ So they would seek comfort in eating fatty foods not knowing it would help them cope better and move on sooner (http://www. slice. ca/Dish/SliceBlog/BlogPost. aspx? sectionID=36;postID=11088). A survey was conducted among ten teenage girls’ whose ages range from thirteen to sixteen. First, all of the respondents were patrons of chocolates and ice creams.

Then, half of them chose chocolate as their favorite flavor. Then their favorite ice cream brand is Nestle and the chocolate brand is Ferrero. And half of them felt relieved or relaxed after eating chocolates and ice cream. Figure 1Figure 3 Favored ice cream flavorFavored ice cream brand Figure 2Figure 4 Favored chocolate brandPreferred comfort food when stressed Figure 5 Result after eating comfort food The figures show the tabular results of the survey. In figure 1, most of the respondents have chosen chocolates as their most favored flavor. One chose vanilla, two for cheese, and the other flavors got two.

In figure 2, Nestle had the most number of votes which is six, three for Selecta, and one for Magnolia. The respondents made their preference, Nestle, clear. For figure 3, Ferrero got the most votes which is six, and this is the most preferred by the respondents even if the Hershey’s got three votes and the other brands got one. For figure 4, most of the respondents found comfort in eating chocolates, though some found comfort in eating ice cream, or both. In figure 5, half of the respondents crave for more after eating chocolates and ice cream.

Three of the respondents became relaxed after eating comfort foods, while two were relieved from the stress for a long day. Chapter III Summary Chocolates are known to have come from a plant which has antioxidants that protect one’s body from aging, while ice cream has come from a combination of ice and various fruit toppings. These two ‘comfort foods’ are usually considered as stress relievers since their components help women think clearly. The goal of this study is to identify the answer to the problem whether chocolates and ice cream could help women cope with their break-up.

A research through the electronic media has answered several questions. Still a survey was conducted to support the study. Ten teenagers from thirteen to sixteen years of age were given questionnaires. The results of the survey show that most of them are patrons of chocolates and ice cream and relies on these foods when they are stressed. Majority of the respondents have preferred chocolate as the flavor of ice cream, which would probably result to a higher positive effect since it is a combination of the two.

More than half of the respondents have chosen Nestle as their favorite ice cream brand and Ferrero as their favorable chocolate. Half of the respondents have been craving for more after eating chocolates and ice cream, but the other half remained relaxed and relieved after eating these comfort foods.
